Client had a retiring design team with a lot of tribal knowledge but without any documentation. Our brief was to understand, capture and develop a new team to manage the design and engineering of a process plant. In the process, the AutoCAD based process was to be converted into 3D CAD.
Da Vinci deployed three teams. One team was involved in live projects involving design and engineering. The second team set out to study the existing designs and create a library of re-usable design data. The third team had to understand and capture the design process and create a design manual. The timeframe given was 12 months.
Da Vinci was able to successfully execute the project. A design manual was creates which is now followed. The design and engineering was shifted from AutoCAD to Autodesk Inventor and the re-usability of design data reduced the engineering time by 50%. Onsite rework was completely eliminated. Material savings of 18% was achieved.
